What did people do before eye glasses? |
About 3/4 of the people I know wear glasses for correction. I don't know when glasses were invented, but I am wondering what people did before glasses were invented? I am fairly blind without me, and in the 1600's I would imiagine I would have been useless to a community with such terrible vision. I wouldn't be able to work or even walk around very well. Is our poor eyesight something unique to the past few centuries? Eyeglasses were invented in the 1300's.But,only 1 out of ten could read. Most didn't know how. Those without glasses worked some menial task that didn't require much sight, like farming.Glasses are more common now also due to all the reading people do today,it strains the eye muscles when focusing. Most people walked or rode a horse and the horse would see for you on the road.Cars are less forgiving. Also part of the reason is human imperfection inherited from Adam and Eve,a copy,of a copy,of a copy,of a copy,of a copy, etc. Each copy loses part of the original in duplication. They probably just walked into walls. Heck who knows. before eye glasses people with bad vision tripped over a lot of things. Not have as good eyesight. WELL IM PRETTY SURE BEN FRANKLIN INVENTED BIFOCALS, ROGER BACON STANDARD GLASSES. I ASSUME THEY JUST HAD TO DEAL WITH IT BEFORE GLASSES. I DONT KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE BECAUSE I HAVE 20/20... BUT I ASSUME ITS LIKE WHEN I HAVE A MIGRAINE AND LIGHTS ARE BLURRY AND YOU CANT FOCUS they dealt with it the same way as we dealt with it before Yahoo answers was invented There wasn't really much to look at back then :) but around 1284 in Italy, Salvino D'Armate is credited with inventing the first wearable eye glasses. Since only certain groups of people were taught to read and write it wasn't an issue for most. They were not as dependent on their vision as we are in today's society. |
