Is the location of my "I" seeming to be behind my eyes an optical illusion? |
I think it is. In particular, if my eyes were not fixed in my head but were rather at the end of long flexible antennas, so that I could look down on myself from several meters above, it would then seem that my "I" was located up there and not in my head . this is a great question. the sense of self is non-local, but we tend to imagine we are where we see from, or, we are the brain etc. It is simply because we are used to identifying ourselves with the physical form, and understanding from mental reasoning. if you can focus on the sense of self alone, it reveals itself to be before mind or body, and to be unfathomable, but also the most familiar thing in your entire life. it's very cute, but notice how the mind does things like speculating about what your experience MIGHT be like IF you had antennae. What about what is truly real, right now? It all depends on your mental condition, which at this point, you are probably right. |
