Contact Lens wear and veins in eyes? |
is it normal for the eyes to become more veiney with contact lens wear? does it get worse the more years you wear contact lenses? i have developed several large veins running into the centres of my eyes, as well as a network of tiny little veins running everywhere. its gross, but its not making my eyes red, and other people can't tell, so i might be being a little obsessive about it. Most often, the veiny look is from a lack of oxygen to your corneas (the front, clear tissue of your eye). Whether that is from wearing your contacts too long, sleeping in them when you're not supposed to, cleaning them incorrectly/not at all/with the wrong solution, keeping them longer than you're supposed to, or whatever.....your eyes are trying to tell you that they're choking. Now, it can also be caused by wearing an old brand of lens. The newer lenses get a LOT more oxygen through them, so they don't cause your eyes to be so red. Or, your doctor may have fit the contacts too tight on your eyes. Any of these reasons would cause your eyes to be red more often. The solution is to ask your doctor for silicone hydrogel contacts. Your doctor can determine if your lenses are too tight, or (another reason for redness) if your eyes are dry. Rewetting drops would help that. Source(s): I'm an optometrist happened to me. i used to wear my contacts without taking them out (VERY stupid). by not taking care of my eyes, the blood vessels can get enlarged. it's not enough to see, but i can cause problems later. of course, putting a piece of plastic repeatedly into your eyes will affect them in some way. but if you take care of them, you should have no problems. i wouldn't worry about them, unless you start having eye problems. if my eyes are still fine, after all the crap i did to them, you'll be fine. if you notice them getting bigger, then go talk to your doctor. |
