EYE pressure... Help!!? |
I found out in June that I have a very high eye pressure. (Like 29 or something) I am only 19 years old. They told me to come back in October to take another exam. If my pressure does not decrease, I will have to use eye drops for the rest of my life... etc. etc. Im very nervous... does anyone have any information on eye pressure??? Or surgeries?? Or experience? Thanks for your assistance. Normal interocular pressure (IOP) should be anywhere between 12-22 roughly so yes, you are out of range. Don't freak out. If in fact you do have glaucoma (which by definition is an increase in IOP causing visual field loss) there are many SIMPLE options. Prostaglandins are a class of once a day medications that you take right before bed to control your pressure, thus preventing visual field loss. There is a laser proceedure called SLT that you may be a candidate for that may eliminate the need for drops- at least for a little while. 1) Did the doctor check Pachymetry? This is your corneal thickness. A thicker than average cornea will give you a falsely high reading. A thinner than average will give you a false low. 2) Is there visual field damage? They can find this out by doing a visual field test. 3) Did they do the "puff of air test"? or was it a bluish light that came toward your eye? The "puff of air test" has a tendency to give false high readings as well. Check on these things. The chances of you being 19 and needing treatment are so slim. Before you do anything, I would definitely get a second opinion. i just wanted to say... *excellent* answer, dp! optometrist http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-wsz1uw8ha... |
