How safe is laser eye surgery, are there any side effects and does it hurt?

I, myself, have never had laser eye surgery, but my old boss has. She explained to me that it does not hurt, and it only takes about ten or fifteen minutes. They put special eye drops in your eye that keep you from blinking during the procedure, and all you will hear are tiny little pops. The only side effect is that your eyesight may be a bit blurry, but that will not last but maybe an hour or so, I'm not positive. You will need someone to drive you home, though, but that's it. No worries!

It is pretty safe but some people have come out of the operating room permanently blind. And it probably doesn't hurt, if it does they'll probably give you a localized anesthesia.
safe depends on your starting prescription, and your corneal thickness, side effects are numerous (usually tolerable), and it may or may not hurt depending on what type of surgery you have (LASIK is usually not too painful, whereas PRK is)
I DON'T THINK IT'S AS SAFE AS THEY SAY I MET A LADY THAT HAD PROBLEMS FROM IT AND IT EFFECTED HER SIGHT AND THEY TOOK HER LICENSE AWAY SHE CAN'T DRIVE ANYMORE BEFORE THIS I THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE
