Has the ALF gone over the edge yet again...trying to kill a highly regarded pediatric ophthalmologist? |
Why do these people think animals come BEFORE humans? Sharks eat fish, Lions eat Zebras, Man is the TOP of the food chain...and all other "chains". I'm not saying animals should be treated bad. Why do SOME people value animals above babies (stem cell research). It's inconceivable to me. http://www.laweekly.com/news/news/monkey... On Sunday, June 24, just that kind of person struck. Rosenbaum, a highly regarded pediatric ophthalmologist who had been regularly harassed by animal-rights activists for his research work with cats and rhesus monkeys at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, noticed a device underneath his luxury sedan. The bomb squad was dispatched to the scene and hauled away a makeshift 鈥?but deadly 鈥?explosive. A faulty fuse was the only reason it didn鈥檛 go off. These people are sick, and what's sad is that most people I know tend to be on their side... "Well I don't think I'd kill him, but he shouldn't be animal testing" is the typical response I hear when I ask people (all kinds of people) questions like that. These extremists will always have numbers because most of the media likes their cause and makes the public somewhat sympathetic to their sick ideals. they don't ...I'm sure they would have done the same thing if he was experimenting on babies. Well, I'm an Animal Rights activist and I condone such methods, if you can call them that. It's that kind of attitude that takes away from our potential credibility and does more harm than good to the Animal Rights movement. No Animal Rights activist that I know of thinks animals deserve more consideration than humans, only that they do deserve consideration and that they should not be used for our own purposes like disposable objects. Animals are not objects, they're sentient creatures that although not as capable of complex thought as human beings, are also vulnerable to physical and emotional suffering. What that doctor does is wrong, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. Testing on animals has brought very little benefit to humanity, completely disproportionate to how much suffering it has caused throughout decades of irrelevant and unjustifiable experiences, and considering the wide range of more ethical alternatives available nowadays, it's getting more and more intolerable by the second. The only positive results obtained have been exceptions considering the vastly superior amount of inconsequent experimentation that has taken millions of innocent lives for nothing more than gaining reputation in the scientific community, not to mention wasting millions of tax payers' dollars. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the bomb was planted there by someone against Animal Rights with the purpose of adding to ALF's bad reputation (in the general, ill-informed public's eyes). Also, stem cell research is not the best example of a more ethical alternative, but at least the cells are not used against anyone's will nor does their use cause suffering to anyone. Besides, not only are they cells from blastocysts, which can hardly be called babies (you might wanna start calling spermatozoas semi-babies or something like that if you go that way!), there's already a way to use the cells without destroying the embryo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/embryonic_s... Just for you to get to know about it a bit better. Well, it would be inconcievable that Animal Rights would be more successful at keeping out dangerous people than other movements. Other Liberal causes such as Environmentalism, and Peace Activism have such people, as do Conservative causes such as Pro-Life and Anti-Immigration. It's unfortunate when any of these causes gets pulled down, not by their philosophical flaws, but by that fringe crazy element. BTW Don't know if it matters but you Identified the group as ALF, but the article seemed to identify the group as "The Animal Liberation Brigade." In the article, Oren Segal talks about how "Lone Wolves" might claim to be working for ELF, ALF, or Animal Liberation Brigade, but is really just working on his/her own. |
